Collection: A Soulful Kwanzaa Advent

Kwanzaa is a week-long celebration beginning on December 26th, in which the Nguzo Saba or seven principles are observed in the African American community. It is also a time for reflection of how we can build and sustain businesses, explore our creativity, improve our community, and maintain our spiritual faith in humanity. During this time a candle is lit each day to represent one of the seven principles culminating in a feast at the end of the week that is filled with good food, good fun and good music.

Music has always been an integral part of the African American community and has painted the soundtrack for each generation. During slavery, our ancestors used spiritual songs as a source of strength and hope that they would one day be free. Music was a driving force during the civil rights movement, with artists often singing about equality, liberation and freedom from discrimination, oppression and harassment. Presently, many artists use continue to use their musical platform to speak out against police violence and the continued systemic and systematic racism in America.

This year I have created a Kwanzaa advent featuring soul music from artists of the 60s and 70s. Each colorway has been designed to reflect the Kwanzaa principle of the day while also representing a particular song from this era.

All skeins/items will be individually wrapped and numbered to be opened on their specific day in keeping with the surprise of an advent event. Each advent will ship in mid-November.
